My journey to explore the historic Cecil Hotel in Murree, Pakistan, was nothing short of spectacular. The hotel, built in 1851, has served visitors to the hill station for over a century. Originally established as a summer retreat for British officials and European visitors, the Cecil Hotel’s stunning traditional British colonial architecture, luxurious interiors, and breathtaking views of the surrounding hills left me awestruck.

In its heyday, the hotel was equipped with all the modern conveniences of the time. From hot and cold running water to electric lighting and telephone services, Cecil Hotel was a true embodiment of luxury in the colonial era.

This rich history is palpable the moment one steps onto the property, instantly transporting you to a bygone era.

Reliving the Golden Age: Cecil Heritage by Pearl-Continental

Today, after an extensive restoration, Cecil Hotel has been reincarnated as the Cecil Heritage by Pearl-Continental. As I stepped through the front door, the warm and inviting ambiance, the beautiful flooring, period furniture, and crackling fires painted a picture of its past, evoking its colonial charm and elegance.

Located on the picturesque Mountain View Road, the hotel is easily accessible from GPO as well as The Mall. The newly refurbished hotel stands as a testament to Murree’s rich past while also catering to the tastes and conveniences of the modern traveler.

Colonial Elegance Meets Modern Comfort: The Rooms

Cecil Heritage offers 14 rooms, each with its own unique charm. These include deluxe rooms, spacious family suites, and even presidential suites. These rooms are replete with modern amenities such as IPTVs, smart heating and cooling, telephones, and WiFi, creating a perfect blend of vintage elegance and modern comfort.

Each room is decorated with period features and vintage tapestry, paying homage to Murree’s historical era. The ensuite bathrooms, complete with a vintage claw-foot tub, separate shower, twin wash basins, radiator, and a vanity counter, offer a luxurious bathing experience, complementing the overall ambiance of old-world charm and contemporary luxury.

Breath-taking Views: A Feast for the Eyes

The Cecil Heritage is blessed with a stunning location. Perched on a hill, it provides a commanding view of the valley below. I found myself spending my days exploring the surrounding hills, drinking in the panoramic vistas, and revelling in the peaceful tranquillity that’s a far cry from the bustle of city life.

The scenic views of the surrounding hills from the Cecil Heritage were nothing short of a treat for the eyes. Every morning, the sun would paint a mesmerizing picture, casting its golden rays upon the lush green hills. And every evening, the setting sun would bathe the horizon in hues of orange and red, creating a spectacle that was truly breathtaking.

A Culinary Experience: Diverse Dining Options

The culinary experience at Cecil Hotel by Pearl-Continental is as diverse as it is delectable. I had the opportunity to dine at Marco Polo, a comfortable all-day dining spot furnished with period furniture, handmade tiled floors, and marble-topped tables. The ambiance of the place combined with the delicious food made every meal an experience to remember.

But my gastronomic journey didn’t stop there. I also visited the Front Page Café, a casual lounge where I enjoyed an array of snacks, juices, mocktails, ice creams, tea, and aromatic coffee. However, my absolute favorite was Bukhara, an outdoor BBQ restaurant. There was something truly special about enjoying authentic Pakistani barbeque, surrounded by rose bushes and fire fountains, with the breathtaking mountain views serving as a backdrop.

Preserving Heritage: A Link to the Past

With its elegant colonial architecture, stunning views, and rich cultural heritage, Cecil Hotel is a treasure trove of Pakistani history. Its careful preservation and restoration ensure that future generations can experience a slice of the past. As a lover of history, it was a pleasure to see how the hotel has successfully retained its essence while also embracing the needs of the modern-day traveler.

Cecil Hotel is more than just a place to stay. It’s a journey back in time, a respite from the hustle and bustle of city life, and a celebration of history, nature, and architecture. Whether you’re a history buff, a nature enthusiast, or simply seeking a peaceful escape, I wholeheartedly recommend Cecil Hotel. I guarantee it will be an experience you will cherish.
